Apple Crumble (Classic British Dessert Recipe)

Ingredients (Serves 4–6)


For the Apple Filling:

  • 800 g cooking apples (such as Bramley), peeled, cored, and sliced

  • 50 g sugar (adjust to taste)

  • 1 tsp cinnamon (optional)

  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

For the Crumble Topping:

  • 150 g all-purpose flour

  • 100 g cold unsalted butter, cubed

  • 75 g sugar

  • Optional: 30 g oats or chopped nuts


Preparation


  1. Prepare the apples:

    • Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).

    • Place sliced apples in a baking dish.

    • Sprinkle with sugar, cinnamon (if using), and lemon juice.

  2. Make the crumble topping:

    • Rub cold butter into flour until mixture resembles coarse breadcrumbs.

    • Stir in sugar and optional oats or nuts.

  3. Assemble the crumble:

    • Sprinkle crumble topping evenly over the apples.

  4. Bake:

    • Bake for 35–40 minutes until topping is golden and apples are tender.

  5. Serve:

    • Serve warm with custard, cream, or vanilla ice cream.
