Ingredients (Serves 2–4)

  • 150 g bryndza (Slovak sheep cheese)

  • 50 g unsalted butter, softened

  • 1 small garlic clove, finely minced (optional)

  • 1–2 tbsp milk or cream, to adjust consistency

  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

  • Rye bread, white bread, or rolls, for serving

Preparation

  1. Prepare the spread:

    • In a bowl, combine bryndza, softened butter, and minced garlic.

    • Mix until smooth, adding milk or cream gradually to reach desired consistency.

    • Season with freshly ground black pepper.

  2. Serve:

    • Spread generously over slices of fresh bread or rolls.

    • Serve immediately or refrigerate for up to 2 days.

Cooking Tips

  • Use high-quality bryndza for authentic flavor; sheep cheese varieties vary in saltiness.

  • Adjust the cream or milk gradually to avoid a too-runny spread.

Serving Suggestions

  • Serve with fresh rye or white bread as a traditional Slovak breakfast or snack.

  • Pair with sliced vegetables (cucumber, radish) or pickles for added freshness and texture.
