Popular Bavarian meatloaf served warm with boiled or fried potatoes and mustard.

Ingredients (Serves 2–4)


  • 500 g Leberkäse (whole loaf or thick slices)

  • 800 g potatoes

  • Salt, to taste

Optional Additions:

  • 1 tbsp butter

  • Fresh parsley, chopped

  • German mustard (sweet or medium-hot)

  • Gravy or pan juices


Preparation


  1. Prepare the potatoes:

    • Peel and boil potatoes in salted water for 20–25 minutes until tender.

    • Drain and keep warm.

    • Optionally, mash with butter or serve whole with parsley.

  2. Cook the Leberkäse:

    • Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).

    • Bake Leberkäse loaf for 45–60 minutes until golden on top, or pan-fry slices for 3–4 minutes per side.

  3. Serve:

    • Slice Leberkäse thickly and serve with potatoes.

    • Add mustard or gravy as desired.

  • Serve with sauerkraut or cucumber salad for balance.

  • Enjoy as a lunch, dinner, or traditional Bavarian meal.

  • Score the top of the Leberkäse loaf to create a crispy crust.
