Ingredients (Serves 4)


  • 500 g potatoes, peeled and grated

  • 1 small onion, grated

  • 1 egg

  • 2–3 tbsp all-purpose flour

  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

  • Vegetable oil, for frying

To Serve:

  • Sour cream or applesauce

  • Optional: sugar for sweet version


Preparation


  1. Prepare the batter:

    • Grate potatoes and onion.

    • Squeeze out excess liquid using a clean cloth or paper towel.

    • In a bowl, combine potatoes, onion, egg, flour, salt, and pepper to form a thick batter.

  2. Fry the pancakes:

    • Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat.

    • Drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil and flatten slightly.

    • Fry 3–4 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy.

    • Drain on paper towels.

  3. Serve:

    • Serve hot with sour cream, applesauce, or a sprinkle of sugar depending on preference.

  • Remove as much liquid from grated potatoes as possible to achieve crispier pancakes.

  • Maintain medium heat while frying to ensure pancakes cook through without burning.
