Tufahije (Bosnian Stuffed Apples)

Ingredients (Serves 4–6)
For the apples:
4–6 medium firm apples (e.g., Golden Delicious)
500 ml water
150 g sugar
1 cinnamon stick
For the walnut filling:
100 g walnuts, finely chopped
2–3 tbsp sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
For the topping:
150 ml heavy cream, whipped
Optional: ground cinnamon or powdered sugar
Preparation
Prepare the apples:
Peel apples, leaving the tops intact.
Core the apples carefully to create a hollow center.
Poach the apples:
In a saucepan, combine water, sugar, and cinnamon stick.
Bring to a boil, then reduce heat.
Add apples and poach 15–20 minutes until tender but not mushy.
Remove and let cool slightly.
Prepare the walnut filling:
Mix chopped walnuts, sugar, and vanilla extract in a bowl.
Stuff the apples:
Fill the hollowed apples with the walnut mixture.
Serve:
Top each apple with whipped cream.
Optionally sprinkle with cinnamon or powdered sugar.
